The Drury community, local iwi and invited guests celebrated the reopening of Bremner Rd, the backbone of Auranga in Drury West recently – getting a sneak peek of the early stages of
the development. The road was officially reopened by Auranga CEO Charles Ma, after being closed for earthworks and infrastructure installation since January 2018.
Officiating the opening were representatives from Nga¯ ti Tamaoho, Te Akitai and Nga¯ ti Te Ata, along with Angela Fulljames and Andy Baker, chairperson and deputy
chairperson of the Franklin Local Board. Fifth generation Drury resident, Warwick Bremner, was also in attendance representing the Bremner family who the
road was originally named after. Bill Cashmore – deputy mayor, also managed to join as the activities commenced. The community was invited
to enjoy the 500-metre stretch of newly-created main road, celebrating the completion of the crucial stage of the Auranga development. Digger demonstrations alongside
family-friendly activities – including interactive bubble displays, badge making, mini-golf, a photobooth, and a Drury Rugby Club fundraiser created a
fun, welcoming event for the community. Ma said the completion of Bremner Rd was a significant milestone for all involved in the project. The event was about
welcoming the community back to stroll the waterways previously hidden from public access, while showcasing the beauty of the area from which Auranga has been created, Ma
said. Bremner Rd is now open to through traffic once again.
